some very unusual artistic creations...

Sisters Genaveve Starr and Judith Dinsmore combine their talents to create beautiful and unique “tatted paintings”. Judith is an accomplished practitioner of tatting, a form of lacemaking rarely practiced today. Genaveve is a master calligrapher who has developed a style of contemporary watercolor painting using wooden tools she makes herself.

Together, they select patterns and choose thread colors for the tatting. Once Judith has completed a piece, Genaveve thoughtfully incorporates it into a painting. The strokes of color are difficult to control and often it takes multiple attempts to achieve the desired results.

our story

Genaveve and Judith create for your enjoyment as well as their own.

how it all began...

Judith was visiting Genaveve in her studio and happened to lay a piece of tatting on a scrap of paper that had been part of a rejected painting. She wondered (out loud) if something could be done with it. Genaveve attached the tatting to the paper and then affixed it to a card blank. They began making cards and eventually started to sell them. They had no expectation of making money—too much time and effort for little return, but they were having fun and were glad to share some beautiful art.

Genaveve was challenged to create designs that highlighted the tatting and when they became more intricate, she made them into paintings. People who saw them wanted to buy them. So, years later, here they are.
